Our Happy Place

Tuesday night we had the pleasure of witnessing the delightful genius of renowned designer Nigel Holmes. He sang, he stripped to his blue boxers, led a bunny hop, and aced the long jump (7 1/2 feet!). All this to demonstrate how to create perspective in design. For years Nigel was graphics director of Time Magazine where he became famous for his pictorial explanations of complex data (think graphs and pie charts in kool-aid colors with graphic representations). His work gained him many imitators and a few academic enemies. He recently published a book with Bloomsbury called Wordless Diagrams. Check him out at http://www.nigelholmes.com/ The thread running through his presentation was 'Happy'. He asserts (rightly so, I'd say) that there isn't enough happiness in our world right now. We left very happy.
